Tea Bar volunteer with Court Tea Bars


About this volunteering opportunity

Serving tea and sympathy to users of Hove Crown Court (nr Palmeira Square, Hove) i.e. serving tea and coffee and light refreshments once a week to users of the court; servicing the jury room - topping up their snack provisions as they are not able to use the main tea bar.- offering a friendly and open welcome to people who are sometimes a bit frazzled by the experience of being in court. You will also serve members of the court staff, security staff, barristers and solicitors. Assisting with the ordering of the next day's supplies.

About this organisation

Provides a neutral space at the Law Court where users can have some light refreshment and sit quietly whilst awaiting their case - be they witnesses, family members, legal professionals or other users of the justice system. This is a non-profit enterprise. Any surplus from sales is distributed to local charities. Every volunteer takes turns to nominate their chosen charity.

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

One full session working alongside the tea bar manager or another member of the volunteer team. On your first 'solo' session the manager will keep in close contact to make sure you are ok with everything. Someone to help will always be available at the end of a phone.

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

Ideally a friendly, open person who can present a non-judgemental attitude. The job is every Thursday,from 8.45 am to 2 pm. A lot of the time you will be standing to serve people, seating is available during quiet times. There is an electric till which is easy to use. Making and pouring tea and coffee using a simple coffee machine (not espresso-style).
