About this volunteering opportunity

A volunteer placement to support and spend time with patients in their own homes in the Havens with the aim of reducing social isolation.
The role will initially be reviewed after 6 months. Following that, it could be made long-term.
• Interact and spend time with patients in their own homes, as identified by community nurses.
• Talk to patients/find out about their interests/signposting to other services.
• Provide a listening ear to patients who are socially isolated.
• Play games such as cards, dominoes, bingo.
• Potential to offer reminiscence therapy (using library resources).

About this organisation

We are the main provider of NHS community health and care services across West Sussex, Brighton & Hove and High Weald Lewes Havens area of East Sussex.

We provide a wide range of medical, nursing and therapeutic care to over 8,000 people a day. We work to help people plan, manage and adapt to changes in their health, to prevent avoidable admission to hospital and to minimise hospital stay.

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

Full training (4 hour statutory training session) and induction provided.
Initial visit completed with a member of staff.
Ongoing support provided by the community nursing team.

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

You must be 18 or over.
You must be friendly and approachable and able to visit someone in the Saltdean/ Peacehaven/ Newhaven area in their own home.
