About this volunteering opportunity

We are looking for Parade Marshals to accompany each bloc in the parade from samba bands to community groups. Parade marshals will be required from 9am-1pm on June 1st to ensure everyone taking part in the parade is safe, happy and has access to water. They will be ensuring each block maintains the correct pace and is unobstructed in their route.

About this organisation

Kemptown Carnival is Brighton’s largest free community arts street festival, attracting over 30,000 attendees.

The Carnival is, at its heart, a community event and needs lots of volunteer support to be able to run. There are a variety of roles available both in the lead up to the event and on the day, from education and work experience opportunities to artistic input to management support to, most importantly, community enthusiasm and participation!

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

A full volunteer welcome briefing, health and safety induction and site run-through will take place on Saturday 18th May, in the afternoon.

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

No experience required! But enthusiasm and energy is a must! The parade moves from Upper St James St, down Bristol Rd and St George's Rd and takes about 40 minutes - 1 hour to complete, so it is essential that Parade Marshals are able to walk or travel this distance comfortably and are able to move easily between groups and to pause them at specific points.
