Brighton Hospital Trolley Service with Royal Voluntary Service

About this volunteering opportunity

This role will involve supporting a trolley shop service at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, offering refreshments, reading material and engaging socially with older people and other patients who may be unable to get to the shop. You will visit a range of wards and will be responsible for approaching individual patients to see if they wish to buy anything. There are two shifts available 9 - 12 in the morning and 1 - 4 in the afternoon. You will be required to assist in all aspects of maintaining the trolley, including tasks such as cash handling, ensuring stock is replenished and rotated, and scanning of newspapers and goods.

We provide practical services in homes, hospitals and communities across England, Scotland and Wales so people can be independent and active. Our work is based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital where our 6 tea-bars and on-ward trolley rounds help to support isolated patients and raise vital funds for the tea bar.

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

All training will be supervised by a volunteer trainer or member of staff and will be tailored to your individual needs. Training will include:
Royal Voluntary Service Induction and the role will require a DBS application
Customer service, till management and cashing-up procedures
Legal areas: Health and Safety, Protection of Vulnerable Adults, Safeguarding and Confidentiality
Dementia Awareness
Regular reviews with line manager

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

Ability to stay on one's feet for 3 or 4 hours
