About this volunteering opportunity



  • To serve customers, using the till, ensuring correct price charged and accurate change given;


  • To sort and ensure that merchandise is in a good saleable condition, i.e. clean, pressed and in a good state of repair;


  • To display merchandise attractively and therefore encourage sales;


  • To record accurately goods received and takings and complete financial documentation;


  • To be able to talk to customers about the work of Samaritans - she/he will not befriend, but should be aware of the branch address, telephone number and how to become a listening volunteer


About this organisation

We provide people in Brighton, Hove and District and the surrounding area as well as elsewhere who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those who may be at risk of suicide, with confidential emotional support at any time of the day or night in order to improve their emotional health and to reduce the incidence of suicide;
And promote a better understanding in society of suicide, suicidal behaviour and the value of expressing feelings which may otherwise lead to suicide or

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity


Training Will Be Given on the following:



Till procedures and cash and debit/credit card processing;



Awareness of Samaritans Vision, Mission and Values and details of the local branch;



Health and Safety;



Shop operating procedures;



Basic clerical procedures;



 



Basics of good customer service.


Skills or experience needed for this opportunity


A degree of numeracy to be able to do till work/clerical work;  An approachable attitude, to be able to engage with customers; Being able to work as part of the shop team, and follow the instructions of the shop manager and deputy manager.



We are looking for somebody who is honest , flexible, and motivated
