Foodbank Re-stocker with The Whitehawk Foodbank

We're sorry, this volunteer opportunity has expired. There may be other opportunities available. Please contact the organisation for more information.

About this volunteering opportunity

This role involves helping behind the scenes, carrying food from our neighbouring store room through to the foodbank building.

We have trolleys but some lifting of crates and tables is required.

The foodbank is open every Wednesday throughout the year from 12-2pm at St Cuthman’s Church in Whitehawk.  We operate a rota so you can help as and when you can – ideally at least once a month.  Arrival time is 11.00am and you will be finished by 2.30/3.00pm.

About this organisation

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to people in Whitehawk and the wider East Brighton area who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

You will be trained by an experienced team member and will "shadow" them in the role for the first few weeks.

Full training will be given on health and safety and manual handling guidelines.

We also provide training on our packing procedures and foodbank policies and safeguarding arrangements.

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

We are looking for someone who is reliable and can work as part of a team.

You will need to respect our clients' privacy and never disclose any of the names or information which you may see at the foodbank.  We require sensitivity to our clients' situations.

We are a Christian organisation and whilst you are not required to be a Christian to be a part of the foodbank team we do expect everyone on the team to have respect for each other's beliefs.
