About this volunteering opportunity

Supported Lodgings Brighton and Hove is seeking volunteers for a piece of on going engagement work with our young people in placement to encourage them to attend social events hosted by Barnardo's as well as empowering them to use their voice and their experience to shape the service and it's future delivery.

Tasks:

  • Engage with young people to look at innovative ways of getting young people and hosts together for social events
  • Create a space for young people to give their opinions regarding the service and it's future delivery
  • Help plan events that young people have said they would like to engage with eg. Summer picnic
  • Contribute to the strategic plan of engagement of young people within the service delivery.

Benefits of the role: The volunteer would gain experience of working in a voluntary organisation knowledge of youth homeless pathway and how supported lodgings fits in to supporting young vulnerable people secure life skills for independence while providing a safe and secure home environment . Experience of working alongside the Project Worker to engage with young people. Expenses including travel will be provided, along with informal support and supervision.

About this organisation

Brighton & Hove Supported Lodgings works with local people to support young people aged 16-21 who are homeless, leaving care or who are a unaccompanied asylum seeker or refugee. Each young person is paired with a suitable host who provides lodgings and support in their own home.

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

An induction will be provided at the beginning of the volunteer's time with us and will include health and safety, policies and procedures, and of course the nature of the role. After that the project worker will be in regular contact with the volunteer to support the role and monitor progress. On going training will be available to fit in with the role and the nature of the project.

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

This volunteering role is both office based and within the wider community. Skills and previous experience in the following areas:

Essential:

Telephone skills such as texting and calling

Passion to engage with young people

Communication skills in engaging with young people

 

Desirable:

Experience of youth work and engaging young people in activities

Experience in event coordination eg. Making arrangement for a social event such as a group going bowling
