About this volunteering opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity at the Whitehawk Inn for an enthusiastic and friendly person to volunteer in on of our IT classes.

If you are available on Tuesday afternoons and have good IT skills, then this could be the role for you!

The overall purpose of this role is to assist the IT tutor in delivering the Next Steps in IT course. Duties include:

  • Supporting the IT tutor in setting up before each session
  • Help present information to the class (through printed guides and verbally)
  • Support learners working in pairs
  • Support part of the group on a different activity
  • Assist learners with writing and filling in forms if needed
  • Support 1 (or 2) learners each week if needed

BHT’s Whitehawk Inn is a friendly community centre providing a range of courses, services and support. Our services are focused on the needs of those living in Whitehawk and East Brighton but we welcome everyone into the centre, to visit or participate in any of our activities. Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

You will have a full induction with our volunteer co-ordinator and tutor before starting. You will be able to meet with your volunteer co-ordinator termly to discuss your role as well as having access to free 1:2:1 sessions with qualified IAG advisors. Training/ incentives include:

  • Access to some BHT training courses
  • Travel expenses are covered
  • Each volunteer can receive a £50 contribution towards any of the Whitehawk Inn courses per year
  • Free tea & coffee when volunteering here

 

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

Skills, attributes and experience should include:

  • Excellent IT skills (using the internet, email and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding and commitment to equal opportunities

Desirable experience:

  • Experience of assisting a tutor
  • taken an adult learning course
  • Experience of volunteering or working in adult education
