Racehill Orchard Volunteer with Racehill Community Orchard

We're sorry, this volunteer opportunity has expired. There may be other opportunities available. Please contact the organisation for more information.

About this volunteering opportunity

Come and join us at the Racehill Orchard! This is a new community orchard in the Whitehawk area, at the top of Race Hill, and accessed from Swanborough Drive and Wilson Avenue. The land, historically used for allotments, had become full of rubbish and buried by brambles but has recently been cleared  to make way for an orchard that is breathing new life into the land. Over 200 fruit trees have been planted as well as thousands of shelter trees. This site is massive so there are loads of things to do and we need lots of help with practical tasks such as scrub clearance, the creation of a pond, pruning the trees, and also potentially support for vulnerable adults so that they can participate in activities safely and enjoy the orchard.

About this organisation

Racehill Community Orchard has been created to provide fruit, a place of beauty for people to enjoy, and a home for wildlife, long into the future. It is a partnership project between Brighton & Hove Food Partnership, Brighton Permaculture Trust and Brighton & Hove City Council.
