About this volunteering opportunity

To provide support to clients of First Base and assist with the smooth running of the service.

  • Assist with the setting up of the rough sleeper's  session in the morning.
  • Meet and greet new clients, making them aware of the facilities in the building when they first arrive.
  • Provide support and signposting advice to clients.
  • Cover the First Base reception desk.
  • Undertake some administrative tasks.
  • Help with the service of meals.
  • Advocate for clients when dealing with other agencies.
  • Assist clients to use laundry facilities.
  • Assist clients to use computers.
  • Help sort donations such as clothing, food and toiletries.

About this organisation

First Base is a centre that provides support to people who are homeless and vulnerably housed in Brighton and Hove. As well as showers, nutritious food and on site access to healthcare we also support our clients to gain housing, employment and training. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wanting to gain skills and experience volunteering with homeless people in Brighton and Hove. First Base currently has vacancies for people wanting to volunteer in our morning rough sleepers’ session.

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

First Base will provide volunteers with a full 'in house' induction and will provide on going support and supervision from our experienced casework team.

Volunteers will also have access to the BHT Induction Programme

There will be no cost to the volunteer.

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

Applicants must be of a mature nature, be empathetic with the issues that homeless people face, be willing to 'muck in' and have good communication skills.
