About this volunteering opportunity

This role will involve supporting a trolley shop service at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, offering refreshments, reading material and engaging socially with older people and other patients who may be unable to get to the shop. You will visit a range of wards and will be responsible for approaching individual patients to see if they wish to buy anything. There are two vacancies available, shifts or either 4 hours or 2 hours, that will visit different parts of the hospital. You will be required to assist in all aspects of maintaining the trolley, including tasks such as cash handling, ensuring stock is replenished and rotated, and scanning newspapers and goods.

About this organisation

Every day Royal Voluntary Service helps thousands of older people to live the life they want. We provide practical services in homes, hospitals and communities across England, Scotland, and Wales so people can be independent and active. Our work in Brighton is based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital where our 6 tea-bars and on-ward trolley rounds help to support isolated patients and raise vital funds for the hospital.
