Sharing your knowledge, this could be DIY, transport, translation and budgeting

About this organisation

Safety Net is a local charity that promotes safety and well-being for children, young people and families at home, in school and in their local communities.

Induction, training and support offered with this opportunity

Would you like to volunteer with families at Safety Net? As a volunteer for us you will receive certificated training, regular supervision and out of pocket expenses. You will also be helping us to provide much needed support to families in our city.

 

To secure your place on our next course, please complete an application form and send back to us as soon as possible. You will also need to attend the introductory session on Friday 4th October 10 -12pm.

Please note, you will not be able to volunteer for us without completing this training and all volunteers will also require a DBS (previously CRB) check.

Training will take place on a Friday mornings 10 -12pm, for 6 weeks at Safety Net’s offices in Portslade (see full address below). The venue is easily accessible by public transport and we will reimburse your travel expenses.

Training start date: 25th October
Training end date: 6th December (not including half term)

Skills or experience needed for this opportunity

Experi              Experience of children, young people or families (that includes your own!)

  • An understanding of and sensitivity to the problems and challenges facing children and families.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • To have a non-judgemental approach
  •  Commitment to the principles of equality and working with diversity and anti-discriminatory practice
  •  Commitment to enhancing participation, and promoting the rights and responsibilities of children, young people and parents and carers

.To have attended a course or trained in programme.

To have been a parent or carer or significant experience giving insight into the role.

Good communication skills

To be able to show warmth and be welcoming to new or anxious parents.

To have an understanding of the principles of positive parenting.

To be reliable and a good time keeper

 ( To know how to use a projector and lap top is always helpful  )
