Recycling and rubbish collection

Community Base has facilities for disposing of general rubbish and for recycling paper, cardboard, glass, aluminium, plastic and printing cartridges.

Paper from your office should be recycled by putting it in paper recycling sacks in your office and taking it to the RECYCLING POINT on the lower ground floor by the car park entrance. There are additional paper recycling boxes at reception, by the photocopier and in the main South Wing meeting room. Spare paper recycling sacks can be obtained at the RECYCLING POINT. All types of paper can be recycled including newsprint, coloured paper, envelopes, magazines and telephone directories. If possible white printer type paper should be put in a separate bag. If you are recycling confidential paper waste you should get special confidential recycling bags from Magpie (01273 685628) and keep them in your office until they are collected by Magpie.

Cardboard should be flattened, taken to the RECYCLING POINT and put it in one of the large cardboard recycling sacks.

Glass, aluminium and plastic should be put in the green recycling boxes or bins in all kitchens and at reception. Glass, aluminium and plastic put in green boxes and bins should be clean. If you want to collect glass, aluminium and plastic in your office for recycling you should do so in a green recycling box (available from reception) or a recycling sack and take full recycling sacks to the RECYCLING POINT. Glass, aluminium and plastic can be mixed in recycling sacks but you should never mix it with paper or general rubbish.

Used printer and photocopier cartridges should be put in the box by the franking machine on the first floor landing.

General rubbish that cannot be recycled should be put in binliners and taken to the skip at the far end of the car park on the lower ground floor. Rubbish is collected on Mondays and Thursdays.

Polystyrene should be treated as general rubbish.

Unwanted furniture in usable condition can be given to Furniture Now! on 487377 who will pick it up free and make sure it goes to a good home.

Old computers and bulky items cannot be disposed of or recycled by Community Base. Groups are responsible for disposing of such items themselves and you might want to contact Computers for Charities or their sister organisation Recycling for Charities for help. A number of local firms such as Mark Snelling on 07833 903433 and C&S Rubbish Clearance on 676757 will also carry out removals of unwanted bulky items. (mention of a company here does not constitute a recommendation by Community Base).

Under no circumstances should any rubbish, cardboard, furniture, old computers or any other items or material be left in communal areas or by the rubbish skip.
