Policy of good practice

1. General statement of policy

   Community Base is committed to promoting good practice in all its activities.

2. Ethical finance

   1. We will manage our finances so as to sustain the work of the charity.
   2. We will bank with a charity, CAF Bank, and an ethical bank, Triodos Bank.
      
   3. We will borrow money from an ethical bank, Triodos Bank.
      
   4. We will seek to work with businesses, suppliers, contractors and tradespeople that are committed to minimising ecological damage, do not have a poor human rights or employment rights record and are not engaged in arms sales, pornography, alcohol, tobacco or animal testing.
   5. We will retain control over the content of advertising on our north wall and not allow advertising for pornography, alcohol, tobacco, gambling or political parties.
      
   6. We will pay reasonable wages to all staff, including casual staff, we employ and make resources available to provide all staff, including casual staff, with proper induction, training and supervision.

3. Disabled people

   1. We will ensure as far as possible that our property is fully accessible to disabled people.
   2. We will audit and monitor such access and seek the views of disabled people and their organisations about our access to, and facilities for, disabled people.
   3. We will meet our legal obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

4. Environmental impact

   1. We will seek to minimise the adverse environmental impact of our activities and encourage other to do so.
   2. We will seek to minimise chemical and other hazards to people using Community Base.
   3. We will seek to minimise water use within Community Base.
   4. We will, wherever practicable, provide facilities for recycling waste material.
   5. We will seek to minimise energy use within Community Base and maximise our use of renewable energy.
   6. We will provide facilities for cyclists using Community Base.
   7. We will seek to discourage the unnecessary use of cars by people using Community Base.

5. The local community and voluntary sector

   1. We will promote good practice within the local community and voluntary sector.
   2. We will provide high quality services and facilities to the local community and voluntary sector.
   3. We will seek to raise the profile of Community Base and the local community and voluntary sector.

6. Review of policy

   1. This policy will be reviewed by the board of trustees at least every calendar year.
