Policy of good practice
1 General statement of policy
Community Base is committed to promoting good practice in all its activities.
2 Ethical finance
a We will manage our finances so as to sustain the work of the charity.
b We will bank with a charity, CAF Bank,
and an ethical bank, Triodos Bank.
c We will borrow money from an ethical bank, Triodos Bank.
d We will seek to work with businesses, suppliers, contractors and tradespeople that are committed to minimising ecological damage, do not have a poor human rights or employment rights record and are not engaged in arms sales, pornography, alcohol, tobacco or animal testing.
e We will retain control over the content of all advertising space we sell.
f We will pay reasonable wages to all staff, including casual staff, we employ and make resources available to provide all staff, including casual staff, with proper induction, training and supervision.
3 Disabled people
a We will ensure as far as possible that our property is fully accessible to disabled people.
b We will audit and monitor such access and seek the views of disabled people and their organisations about our access to, and facilities for, disabled people.
c We will meet our legal obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
4 Environmental impact
a We will seek to minimise the adverse environmental impact of our activities and encourage other to do so.
b We will seek to minimise chemical and other hazards to people using Community Base.
c We will seek to minimise water use within Community Base.
d We will, wherever practicable, provide facilities for recycling waste material.
e We will seek to minimise energy use within Community Base and maximise our use of renewable energy.
f We will provide facilities for cyclists using Community Base.
g We will seek to discourage the unnecessary use of cars by people using Community Base.
5 The local community and voluntary sector
a We will promote good practice within the local community and voluntary sector.
b We will provide high quality services and facilities to the local community and voluntary sector.
c We will seek to raise the profile of Community Base and the local community and voluntary sector.
6 Review of policy
This policy will be reviewed by the board of trustees at least every calendar year.
