Community Base is a charity providing a home for community and voluntary groups in Brighton and Hove. We use income from affordable rent and services, including use of our South Wing meeting rooms, to repay a mortgage on our accessible seven floor building a few minutes from Brighton station and meet our running costs. You can view a short film about Community Base here.
A multicultural community centre
Community Base is a truly multicultural community centre, providing a home to groups offering real help to local black and minority ethnic communities alongside groups providing services to the wider community. Our guide to Community Base and other services in Brighton and Hove is available in twelve languages other than English to help non-English speakers get help when they need it.
Real help for real people
The friendly, supportive environment provided by Community Base allows a wide range of groups, large and small, to work together, sharing their expertise
and providing much needed services. The diversity of these services reflects
the variety of local need – groups are involved with homeless people,
people with learning difficulties, carers, community activists, refugees,
bereaved people, non-English speakers, travellers and many
others. Thousands of people are offered real help by groups at Community Base
every year.
Our reception
Our reception, which is here and normally open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm, provides information about groups at Community Base and many other matters. You can pick up a free copy of our poster guide to local services and translations of this guide into 12 languages or browse local volunteer opportunities in our Brighton and Hove volunteer search folders. You can contact our receptionist Deborah Sprackling on (01273) 234002 or by email.
Our online services

Our other activities
We provide support for local community and voluntary groups whether they licence space with us or not. We also hold occasional events such as open days, working lunches and refugee week meetings to discuss community issues and promote the work of the local community and voluntary sector.
Our values
Community Base is committed to ensuring the existence of
a strong, independent voluntary sector as an essential element of a democratic
society. We are also committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our activities as far as possible and are a Green Champion 2008.
