Heating
Community Base has storage heaters that are switched on from around September to May. In order to minimise the risk of fire you should ensure that nothing - curtains, clothes, piles of boxes and so on - comes within six inches of a storage heater.
If your office is not warm enough here are some things you can do...
If no heat is coming from a storage heater it might not be turned on. Make sure that the bottom of the mains switch is pushed in indicating it is switched on at the mains. As storage heaters only turn on at night the red light on the mains switch will not light during the day.
If some heat is coming from a storage heater but not very much
The input may not be high enough - put the INPUT dial to 8 or 9 (remember if you change the INPUT dial setting it will only take effect the next day)
The ROOM TEMP BOOST dial (which releases heat quicker the higher it is set) may have been left at a high setting overnight. The ROOM TEMP BOOST dial should be turned to 1 overnight
One or more of the heater elements may have stopped working - tell our receptionist and we will replace them. This requires turning the storage heater off the night before the new element is put in.
If a good heat is coming from your storage heaters but your office is still too cold this is likely to be a result of particularly cold weather and poor insulation. Community Base is a poorly insulated building with windows that let out a lot of heat. During cold spells we can supply oil filled portable electric heaters to supplement storage heaters while we try to resolve problems with storage heaters or insulation. These heaters should not be left on overnight or when offices are unoccupied. For safety reasons no heaters other than our storage heaters or our portable electric heaters are allowed at Community Base.
If you come into a cold office in the morning you can turn the ROOM TEMP BOOST dial to 9 to quickly heat your office. You should set the dial to a lower number after about half an hour to ensure the heater does not lose all its heat too quickly.
You can control the amount of heat coming out your heater at any time using the ROOM TEMP BOOST. Remember that if you set the dial high early in the day less heat will be available later in the day. The ROOM TEMP BOOST dial should always be turned to 1 overnight to avoid the heater losing its heat overnight.
If you have any problems with your heating or want advice about how best to use it please tell our receptionist.
