Using your heaters

Community Base has storage heaters throughout the building that are switched on from around September to May. You should ensure that nothing - curtains, clothes, piles of boxes and so on - comes within six inches of a heater.

Nearly all heaters (aport from South Wing meeting room heaters) have three switches - a mains on/off switch on the wall, an INPUT switch and a ROOM TEMP BOOST switch. If your heater is not producing enough heat you should
•  check that the heater is switched on at the mains with the bottom of the mains switch pushed in - if there is a red light on the mains switch it will only lights at night when electricity is being consumed so don't worry if it doesn't light when you switch the heater on
•  check that the INPUT switch is at 9
•  check that the ROOM TEMP BOOST switch is set low - putting this switch to a high setting simply uses the heat stored in the heater more quickly.

Remember, as these are storage heaters the changes you make to switches will only take affect from the next day.

If you do not use your office at weekends or for a few days at a time we can install timeswitches that you can use to turn your heaters when they are not needed, saving a lot of energy.

It is possible that if your room is cold it is poorly insulated or your heating needs professional attention. If your office requires extra heating we will supply you with oil filled portable electric heaters to supplement the heat from your storage heaters until we have resolved the problem. For safety reasons no heaters other than our storage heaters or our portable electric heaters are allowed at Community Base.

If you have any problems with your heating you should contact our receptionist.
